Ambai
Liveaboard in Indonesia
Ambai is a 32-meter custom-built liveaboard launched in 2012, accommodating 16 guests across 8 cabins — 6 on the lower deck and 2 sea view cabins on the upper deck. Operated by Wallacea Dive Cruise, the vessel runs 9 to 12-night itineraries across Raja Ampat, Komodo, Banda Sea, Halmahera, and Triton Bay. Nitrox available onboard. For the 2026/2027 season, rates start from USD $468 per person per day.
Ambai is the flagship vessel of Wallacea Dive Cruise, an operator with over a decade of Indonesian liveaboard experience, a 5.0 Google rating across 261 reviews, and close ties to the Tompotika Dive Lodge — their own dive resort near Luwuk in North Sulawesi. Built in 2012 from ironwood and tropical hardwoods and custom-designed from the keel up for diving, the vessel carries a crew of 18 for 16 guests. A returning guest loyalty program offers discounts on future cruises, reflecting the high proportion of repeat bookings the operation attracts.
Eight cabins accommodate 16 guests across two decks. On the lower deck, cabins 1 to 4 each feature a double bed with a single bunk above — usable as a double for couples or as twin beds for two guests. Cabins 5 and 6 are twin only. All lower deck cabins have air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms with hot water. The two upper deck cabins offer the same amenities with sea views. Crew handle all equipment loading and unloading, and complimentary toiletries including towels, soap, shampoo, and toothpaste are provided. Common areas include an air-conditioned restaurant that doubles as the dive briefing room — with a large flat screen for photo and video presentations — an indoor lounge, outdoor front lounge, shaded deck areas, and a sundeck. Kayaks are available between dives.
The dive deck at the rear of the main deck provides direct access to a platform large enough to receive all three tenders simultaneously. A dedicated camera room offers maintenance facilities, rinse tanks, and charging stations. Nitrox is available onboard. With a 600HP Mitsubishi engine, the vessel cruises at 8 knots supported by three Yanmar generators and an 8,000-litre-per-day watermaker. For the 2026/2027 season, itineraries cover Raja Ampat, Komodo National Park, Banda Sea, Triton Bay, Halmahera, Sulawesi, and the Forgotten Islands — with seasonal routing planned around optimal conditions in each region.
