Cheng Ho

Liveaboard in Indonesia

0 (0 reviews)

Cheng Ho is a 35-meter traditional Phinisi liveaboard built from Ulin ironwood, accommodating 26 guests across 14 cabins on 4 decks. Operated by Sea Safari Cruises, one of Indonesia's longest-established liveaboard operators since 1988, the vessel runs itineraries across Raja Ampat, Komodo, Banda Sea, Alor, and the Forgotten Islands. Nitrox available onboard. For the 2026/2027 season, rates start from USD $360 per person per day.

Cheng Ho is the flagship of Sea Safari Cruises, a company that has been operating liveaboards in Indonesia since 1988 — one of the longest track records of any operator in the country. The vessel was renovated in 2020 and sits within a three-vessel fleet alongside Sea Safari VI and Sea Safari 8, all built in-house from Ulin ironwood. At 35 meters long with an unusually wide beam of 10.65 meters across 4 decks, Cheng Ho offers more deck space and interior volume than most vessels of similar length. The primary focus is Raja Ampat, with Komodo running as the counter-season destination and the Banda Sea, Alor, and Forgotten Islands featuring on longer crossing itineraries through the year.

Fourteen cabins accommodate 26 guests across three configurations, all on the lower deck with en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold showers. Six double cabins and six twin cabins serve couples and pairs, while two single cabins accommodate solo travelers — a practical option rarely found on Indonesian liveaboards at this capacity. All cabins include air conditioning, hair dryer, bathrobes and towels, and a safety box. Common areas span four decks and include an indoor restaurant, indoor and outdoor sofa lounge areas, a sun deck with lazy beds, a jacuzzi, and a dedicated dive deck with a camera station. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available for guest use.

Diving is supported by two aluminium speedboats, an ENOS diver locator system for each diver, and EAN 32% nitrox available onboard. Navigation equipment includes Furuno GPS, Koden radar and echo sounder, EPIRB, satellite phone, and both VHF and SSB radio. The vessel undergoes annual dry dock maintenance, typically in May. For the 2026/2027 season, itineraries cover Raja Ampat, Komodo National Park, the Banda Sea, Alor, and the Forgotten Islands.
