Aqua Blu
Crociera di piacere a Indonesia
Aqua Blu is a 60-meter luxury expedition yacht accommodating 30 guests across 15 individually designed suites on 5 decks, operated by Aqua Expeditions. Originally built as the British Royal Navy survey ship HMS Beagle in 1968 and comprehensively refurbished in 2019, the vessel runs 7 to 14-night itineraries across Komodo, Raja Ampat, the Spice Islands, Asmat, and West Papua. Diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and guided hikes all included. For the 2026/2027 season, rates start from USD $1,300 per person per day.
Aqua Blu is a category of one in the Indonesian liveaboard market. Originally constructed as HMS Beagle for the British Royal Navy in 1968 — the same name as Charles Darwin's historic survey vessel — she was converted to a private yacht in 2002 and refurbished in 2019 under Aqua Expeditions into the expedition yacht she is today, with interiors by Dutch yacht designer Cor D. Rover and cuisine by Australian chef Benjamin Cross. Aqua Expeditions operates a global fleet of small-ship expedition vessels — both ocean and river — across Indonesia, Peru (Amazon), the Galapagos, the Seychelles, the Arctic, and Southeast Asia (Mekong). Aqua Blu is their Indonesian flagship and the only long-range expedition yacht permanently based in East Indonesia, compliant with RINA, SOLAS, and ISM classifications and equipped with Quantum Zero Speed stabilisers for comfort in any sea condition. Four 660HP Lister Blackstone engines give a cruising speed of 10–12 knots across a range that covers the full breadth of eastern Indonesia.
Fifteen individually designed suites across three categories span five decks. Category I suites average 25–34 sqm and include the largest cabins on board — several with split-level layouts, walk-in wardrobes, sofas, and oversized bathrooms, some with bathtubs. Category II suites average 24 sqm with large windows or portholes and generous living space. Category III suites at approximately 14 sqm are the most compact, suited for solo travelers or teenagers, each with two portholes and well-appointed bathrooms. All suites are ocean-facing with king or twin beds, rain showers, Nespresso machines, electronic safes, and organic bath amenities. Cabins 301 and 302 can be joined to form a two-room suite; cabins 401 and 402 connect to create a top-deck suite with direct bridge access. Common areas span five decks and include an indoor salon and dining room, indoor and outdoor bar, sky lounge bar, observation deck, outdoor jacuzzi, spa and massage room, outdoor workout zone, library with TV, and sun deck.
All meals, non-alcoholic beverages, house wines and beer, laundry, high-speed WiFi, and group transfers are included. Excursions across all itineraries include diving, snorkeling, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and guided hikes, led by three onboard naturalist guides including a dive guide. Cuisine is overseen by chef Benjamin Cross, whose 20-year career spans Michelin-starred restaurants in Australia, the US, and Spain, with menus drawing on Indonesia's spice trade heritage and freshly sourced local produce. Itineraries rotate seasonally across Bali and Komodo National Park, the Ambon and Spice Islands, Raja Ampat, and West Papua. In late 2026, Aqua Blu operates two time-chartered voyages with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions.
