Wellenreng

Wellenreng is a 25-meter traditional wooden Phinisi built in Tanah Beru, Sulawesi, accommodating up to 6 guests (9 maximum with children) across 3 en-suite cabins. A boutique, fully customizable vessel with tailor-made itineraries, dates, and routes, the boat runs 5 to 12-night trips. Nitrox included. For the 2026/2027 season, rates start from USD $474 per person per day for a Deluxe cabin.

Wellenreng takes its name from La Galigo, the epic Bugis creation narrative from around 1500 AD, in which Prince Sarawigadeng builds a ship of the same name to reach his beloved in southern China — a legend locally credited with inspiring the boat-building tradition of South Sulawesi. Construction on the vessel itself began in August 2008 in Tanah Beru and took three years, with a hull of ironwood and an entirely teakwood interior, launching her maiden voyage to Flores in 2011. With only three cabins and a maximum of six to nine guests, the vessel is built for small private groups and families rather than shared departures, and itineraries, dates, and routes are fully customizable around the group's preferences.

Three cabins accommodate guests across two categories, each with an additional single bed for children or a third guest. The Master cabin offers a king-size bed; two Deluxe cabins offer queen-size beds. All cabins are individually air-conditioned with en-suite bathrooms with hot water, daylight portholes, a desk, storage space, a safe, and personal bathrobes and toiletries, with daily housekeeping throughout. Common areas include a shaded outdoor dining and lounge area with sofas, an indoor salon, a 360-degree panoramic observation deck with beanbags, and a sundeck with lounge chairs and cushions. A small library with fish and bird ID books rounds out the shared spaces. Meals blend Indonesian and European cuisine, prepared by an onboard chef and served al fresco, with a DeLonghi espresso machine using local coffee beans, non-alcoholic drinks included throughout, and a curated selection of beer, wine, and cocktails available.

Diving is fully equipped with nitrox included, up to 3 to 4 dives a day including night dives, and a 7-meter fiberglass dinghy with twin 40HP engines, individual seating, and tank holders. Tanks come in 12L and 15L aluminium, DIN and INT configurations, with freshwater rinse tanks for equipment and cameras and a hot water shower on the dive deck. A local dive guide leads small groups to hidden sites inaccessible to day boats. Beyond diving, activities include kayaking through lagoons and mangroves, snorkeling, beach visits on uninhabited islands, village visits, birdwatching, and sunset cruises — all on a flexible, unhurried pace.
