Eight guests, four cabins and Komodo National Park. Duyung Baru is on Coralbound.

This is a platform spotlight. If you're here to plan an Indonesia liveaboard trip, start with the Indonesia liveaboard guide.

Duyung Baru

Duyung Baru is a traditional Phinisi, built in 2010, with space for just 8 guests in 4 cabins. She runs diving, snorkelling and cruise trips inside Komodo National Park and nowhere else. The operator describes the experience as closer to a private charter than a shared liveaboard, and the whole boat is available as a full charter on request.

EcoPro Divers

EcoPro Divers is an experienced liveaboard operator with its own small fleet. Seascape and Mariana sail in the Maldives, Duyung Baru sails in Komodo, and the company also runs BREEZE, a resort in North Bali. Duyung Baru is the first EcoPro Divers boat on Coralbound, with the others to follow as we add more countries.

The operator focuses on small groups and eco-friendly practice, and says it works with conservation groups including the Marine Megafauna Foundation. On Komodo, it sails Duyung Baru year-round, so the crew works the park through every season. EcoPro Divers often has good deals on bookings made well in advance and on last-minute spaces. Right now it is offering 10% off all departures with free nitrox, and 25% off with free nitrox on last-minute departures. New to Komodo? Our Komodo guide covers sites, seasons and planning.

Cabins

Four cabins across two decks, all with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning:

  • Lower deck (3): two double-bed cabins, which can be set up as twin with a separator, and one twin cabin. Each has drawers and under-bed storage.
  • Main deck (1): a sea view cabin, double or twin.

The indoor salon is where meals are served. Outside there is a bar and lounge with beanbags, and a sun deck with sunbeds. A camera charging and storage area is on the main deck.

Diving

Diving runs from a RIB tender, with three dives a day. Tanks and weights are included in the price.

  • Two Bauer compressors supply air. A membrane system with an air bank supplies nitrox, available at an extra charge.
  • Rental equipment is not included.
  • Non-divers and snorkellers are welcome on board.

On board

The price includes full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner), drinking water, coffee, tea and snacks. Alcohol, soft drinks and Lavazza coffee are charged separately. EcoPro Divers makes its own drinking water on board and uses reusable bottles and glasses.

Where she sails

Duyung Baru sails five Komodo itineraries. The operator gives these best times:

  • Komodo Central: year-round. For divers of all levels and snorkellers.
  • Komodo Central and South: October to April. Mantas, macro and less-visited reefs. For experienced divers and enthusiastic snorkellers.
  • Komodo Central and North: May to October. Coral gardens, currents and bigger fish. For divers of all levels and snorkellers.
  • Komodo to Sumbawa: April to November. Whale sharks and remote sites. For experienced divers and adventurous snorkellers. See our guide to diving with whale sharks across Indonesia.
  • Cruise, Snorkel and Chill: year-round. A relaxed option for families, snorkellers and beginner or casual divers.
