Teman
Teman — "friend" in Indonesian — is a 36-metre traditional wooden phinisi built in 2017, with twin masts carrying six sails. Every itinerary is officially classified as diving and leisure rather than dive-only, giving equal weight to scuba diving, snorkelling, and above-water activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, trekking, and beach outings. Cabins and trips are designed with divers and non-divers travelling together in mind, not as an afterthought.
A crew of 11 serves a maximum of 12 guests — close to a one-to-one ratio — with crew local to the regions the boat visits, bringing genuine knowledge to shore excursions rather than treating them as a box-ticking add-on.
A separate tender for snorkelling
The detail that sets Teman apart from most dive-and-leisure boats is a dedicated snorkel dinghy, typically running alongside the main dive tenders. Divers and snorkellers head out independently rather than one group waiting on the other, led respectively by PADI-certified dive guides and a dedicated snorkel guide. Two kayaks (one double, one triple) and two paddleboards are also on board for exploring calm bays and lagoons the main vessel can't reach.
Advanced Open Water certification with around 30 logged dives is recommended, but Open Water divers are welcome too — dives are capped at 18 metres, with a dedicated private guide required at $100 per day, split among all Open Water divers on the trip.
Cabins and comfort
Five cabins accommodate up to 12 guests. One Master cabin offers the most spacious layout. Two Triple cabins combine a double bed with a single bed, suited to families or groups of three. Two Double cabins can accommodate an extra bed on request. All cabins are air-conditioned with en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold water showers, reading lights, and European sockets.
Common areas include an open lounge and dining area with 270-degree views, a sun deck for daytime relaxation and stargazing, and a separate leisure deck for downtime between activities. Beach barbecues are a regular feature, alongside guided treks to volcanic viewpoints and coastal trails.
Diving and snorkelling equipment, nitrox, and Starlink WiFi are all available at an additional cost rather than included in the base rate.
Shorter leisure-only trips in Komodo
Alongside the standard diving and leisure itineraries, Teman also runs shorter 3-night/2-day and 4-night/3-day leisure-only departures in Komodo — no diving at all, just snorkelling, island excursions, and time on the water, for guests who want a shorter taste of the park without committing to a full dive itinerary.
Where Teman sails
Primary destinations for the 2026/2027 season are Raja Ampat, Komodo, and the Banda Sea, with bespoke cruises available on request to Triton Bay, Sulawesi, and Halmahera.
