Full dive gear included, courses run onboard, and an operator with a real track record in Komodo. Amalia is now on Coralbound — booked out well ahead of departure, with a steady stream of repeat guests, which tends to say more about an operator than any review score can.
This is a platform announcement. If you're here to plan an Indonesia liveaboard trip, start with the Indonesia liveaboard guide.
Uber Scuba Komodo
Amalia is operated by Uber Scuba, a PADI 5-star dive centre and one of the more established training operators in Komodo, running day trips, try dives, certification courses, and Divemaster training out of Labuan Bajo alongside their liveaboard program. That training background carries onto Amalia herself — Advanced Open Water courses and adventure dives like deep dives run onboard, making her a practical choice for divers who want to build experience on the trip rather than needing it beforehand. Guests with fewer than 20 logged dives have completed their Advanced certification on Amalia and left with real confidence in the water, not just a card.
Amalia
Amalia was once a working fishing boat before being completely rebuilt in Labuan Bajo from Kayu Ulin ironwood, under local boat-building project manager Haji Baso. Her name — from the Germanic "Amal" meaning hard work, and the Italian "amaliare" meaning attraction — reflects both her working origins and her current role. At 29 metres long, she's built specifically around diving in Komodo National Park, with a dedicated dive deck at the stern.
Full recreational dive gear rental is included in the trip price — tanks, BCD, 3mm wetsuit, mask, regulator, booties, and fins, in both DIN and yoke configurations — a real differentiator in a market where many operators charge separately for equipment. Dive computer rental is available; nitrox is not, so certified nitrox divers should plan accordingly.
Diving and safety
Up to three dive professionals support a maximum of 11 guests, including two dive instructors and a Divemaster who specialises in spotting macro life, with dive groups capped at four people. Two tenders handle site access. Each diver gets a tagged personal dive station with two tanks, and separate rinse buckets are provided for electronics and masks — small details that add up on a boat built around getting the diving right.
Cabins and comfort
Five cabins accommodate up to 11 guests across three configurations. Two Double En-suite cabins offer a private double bed with an internal bathroom, a porthole, and a ceiling fan. Two Twin cabins share a bathroom between them. One Family/Friends cabin sleeps two to three guests with a single bed and a double bed, sharing a bathroom with the twin cabins.
All cabins are naturally ventilated rather than air-conditioned — a deliberate choice to avoid running a noisy generator overnight — with personal fans, charging points, and reading lights throughout. Common areas include an open kitchen, an indoor saloon with TV, low outdoor dining tables, and an upper sun deck with day beds for sleeping under the stars.
Non-divers are well looked after too
Amalia isn't only for divers. Every trip includes a Pink Beach visit, a Komodo dragon trek, and the Padar Island viewpoint hike as standard, alongside snorkelling, stand-up paddleboarding, and beach barbecues — giving non-diving guests a full itinerary of their own rather than time spent waiting on the boat while the rest of the group is underwater.
Where and when Amalia sails
Trips run 3 to 6 nights within Komodo National Park, covering the north or south of the park depending on the season. All meals, snacks, SUP use, land excursions, and a beach barbecue are included. Canned soft drinks, alcohol, Komodo National Park entrance fees, the Rinca entrance fee, and diving insurance are charged separately — insurance can be purchased through the operator if you haven't arranged it independently.
