More than 12 years based permanently in Komodo, separate snorkel groups so nobody waits on the surface, and Open Water certification is all you need to join. Moana Cruising is now on Coralbound.
This is a platform announcement. If you're here to plan an Indonesia liveaboard trip, start with the Indonesia liveaboard guide.
Moana Cruising
Moana Cruising has operated in Komodo National Park for more than 12 years, run by owners Stefan and Tanja Campo — based permanently in one place rather than rotating between regions. She books out consistently, which tends to say more about an operator than any review score can.
A crew of 11 looks after a maximum of 10 guests: eight boat and hospitality crew plus three dedicated dive and snorkel guides. That ratio is a deliberate choice rather than a luxury flourish — Moana runs separate snorkel groups with their own dedicated guide and speedboat while divers are underwater, so snorkellers get a proper session of their own instead of waiting on the surface for the group to resurface.
A crew member presents freshly prepared calamari salad plates on deck, with the bay and shoreline visible behind him.
Beginner-friendly, without cutting corners
Open Water certification alone is enough to join — there's no minimum logged dive count. Night dives and stronger-current sites are reserved for more experienced divers, but the standard program is built to welcome newer divers rather than screen them out. Most trips run 6 days and 5 nights, with 14 to 16 dives over the course of the itinerary and up to four dives on a full day, depending on route, weather, and the group's experience level.
Fair pricing for mixed groups
Diving and snorkelling guests pay different rates, but everything else about the trip — the boat, the cabin, the meals — is identical either way. Snorkelling guests can add individual dives during the trip if they choose, and under the operator's own "Fair Play" policy, they never end up paying more than the standard diving rate plus any equipment rental, however many dives they add along the way.
Cabins
Five en-suite cabins accommodate up to 10 guests — three double cabins and two twin cabins, all below deck with individual air conditioning, a fan, and a private bathroom. Solo travellers normally share a twin cabin with a same-gender guest, with single occupancy available for a surcharge subject to availability.
The upper deck houses an air-conditioned lounge with a library, a dedicated space for photo and video work, and charging stations, alongside a bow chill-out area where some guests choose to sleep under the stars. A large communal dining table on the main deck serves full board — an early light breakfast, a second warm breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, and dinner, with fresh juice, smoothies, and snacks available throughout the day.
The bow lounging area looks out over the anchorage, with a life ring mounted on the rail and other vessels visible in the distance.
Diving and beyond
Diving covers more than 50 named sites across Komodo National Park, chosen daily according to conditions rather than a fixed rotation, including well-known sites like Manta Point, Batu Bolong, Castle Rock, and Crystal Rock alongside quieter alternatives. Full rental equipment is available on board; nitrox isn't offered.
Beyond the water, itineraries include Komodo dragon treks on Rinca or Komodo Island, beach stops, small hikes to viewpoints, and stand-up paddleboarding — enough variety that the trip works as a proper holiday for mixed groups, not just a dive schedule with meals attached.
Where and when Moana Cruising sails
The standard trip runs 6 days and 5 nights, exclusively within Komodo National Park, operating from mid-March to mid-December. Longer itineraries run occasionally but aren't the norm. Private charter is available for exclusive use of the whole vessel.
