Great diving, happy guests, and nearly 300 five-star Google reviews. Mikumba Diving is now on Coralbound.
This is a platform announcement. If you're here to plan an Indonesia liveaboard trip, start with the Indonesia liveaboard guide.
Mikumba Diving
Mikumba Diving has been running liveaboard trips in Komodo and Raja Ampat since 2018. The operator holds Green Fins certification and PADI Eco Centre status — a documented commitment to reef-safe practices, waste management, and marine conservation outreach in the local community. Two boats cover two very different price points: Jelajahi Laut for mid-range comfort across a wide seasonal itinerary, and Nusantara for budget-friendly diving in Komodo National Park.
Jelajahi Laut
Jelajahi Laut — "Explore the Sea" in Indonesian — is the mid-range flagship, a 32-metre traditional phinisi built in Bira in 2021 from ironwood and teak, accommodating up to 12 guests across six cabins. For expedition-style trips running 8 to 15 nights across remote Indonesian waters, six cabins is a deliberate choice — small enough that the group stays tight, the guides know every diver personally, and the boat doesn't feel crowded on long crossings. Two Sea View cabins on the top deck each have a double bed and private balcony. Two Deluxe cabins offer a double and a single bed — a flexible layout for couples or small families. Two Standard cabins each have two single beds — the two cabins share a bathroom between them, making them a natural fit for a group of four travelling together. All cabins have air conditioning and hot water.
The seasonal routing covers more ground than most mid-range boats in Indonesia: Raja Ampat from November to April, transitioning through Lembeh and Bunaken from May to June, Halmahera from July to September, and the Banda Sea and Ambon from October to November before returning to Raja Ampat. Halmahera in particular is an area few operators cover with any regularity — at a mid-range price point, it's a rare option.
Diving is supported by two Bauer air compressors, a membrane nitrox system, and two speedboats with 100HP four-stroke Yamaha outboards. All meals, tea, coffee, soft drinks, and water are included. Nitrox, Starlink internet, alcohol, and equipment rental are available at a surcharge.
Nusantara
Nusantara is the no-frills option — a 21-metre boat refurbished in 2022, built for short, affordable diving trips in Komodo National Park. She runs 3 to 5-night trips year-round, with February excluded due to weather conditions in the park. At this price point, the crew is the differentiator — nearly 300 Google reviews averaging five stars across both boats, with guest feedback consistently focused on the dive guides, food, and onboard atmosphere rather than the cabins.
The minimum requirement to dive is an Open Water certification with at least 10 logged dives. Guests who want to progress can also complete their Deep Adventure Dive or full Advanced Open Water course on board.
Accommodation is dorm-style below deck with 8 beds, each with a privacy curtain, fan, reading light, and power socket. An additional 4 mattresses on the covered upper deck are an option for guests who prefer sleeping outside — popular on clear, calm nights. Two shared bathrooms with western-style toilets and hot showers serve all guests. A large dining area and sun deck with beanbags fill out the main deck. Diving runs from a dedicated deck at the stern, with a speedboat for site access.
