Wellenreng

Wellenreng is a 25-metre traditional wooden phinisi built in Tanah Beru, Sulawesi, with a hull of ironwood and an entirely teakwood interior. Construction began in August 2008 and took three years, with her maiden voyage to Flores in 2011.

The name comes from La Galigo, the Bugis creation epic dating to around 1500 AD, in which Prince Sarawigadeng builds a ship of the same name to reach his beloved in southern China — a legend locally credited with inspiring the boat-building tradition of South Sulawesi.

Small by design

Wellenreng carries up to 6 guests (9 maximum with children) across three en-suite cabins — a Master cabin with a double bed and two Deluxe cabins with queen beds, each with an additional single bed. Most departures run as regular shared trips, cabin by cabin, like any other liveaboard. What sets Wellenreng apart is how accessible a full private charter is on a boat this size — a small group can take the whole vessel for a price that would be out of reach on a larger boat with more cabins to fill. Comfort and non-diving activities

Common areas include a shaded outdoor dining and lounge area, an indoor salon, a 360-degree observation deck with beanbags, a sundeck, and a small library with fish and bird ID books. Meals blend Indonesian and European cuisine, prepared by an onboard chef and served al fresco, with a DeLonghi espresso machine and a curated selection of beer, wine, and cocktails.

Non-divers are well looked after here: kayaking through lagoons and mangroves, snorkelling, beach visits on uninhabited islands, village visits, birdwatching, and sunset cruises fill the days at an unhurried pace, alongside the diving rather than around it.

Diving

Nitrox is included, with up to 3 to 4 dives a day including night dives. A 7-metre fiberglass dinghy with twin 40HP engines, individual seating, and tank holders handles dive site access, with 12L and 15L aluminium tanks in DIN and INT configurations. A local dive guide leads small groups to sites day boats can't reach, across destinations including Komodo and Raja Ampat.

What's included

Rates for the 2026/2027 season start from $474 per person per day for a Deluxe cabin, with nitrox and Starlink WiFi included. Alcohol and national park or port fees are charged separately, but little else is.
