Jakaré

Three dives a day, a cruise director guests keep naming in their reviews, and a boat with no superstructure and room to spread out. Jakaré is on Coralbound.

Jakaré is a 30-metre traditional Phinisi, built between 2015 and 2017 in Tanah Beru, South Sulawesi, by the family of HJ Puga. Tanah Beru is one of the best-known boatbuilding villages in Indonesia. The hull was assembled with wooden pegs rather than nails, from timber dried for over a year.

She carries 10 to 12 guests in five cabins. She is managed by the same company as Aliikai and Mutiara Laut, both also on Coralbound. The boats are separate vessels with their own crews and programmes.

Jakaré is a diving and leisure boat, and the diving is serious. Divers get a full programme without the boat being run as a dive-only machine, and non-divers have plenty to do.

Audrey and the crew

Audrey is Jakaré's cruise director and her dive instructor, speaking both French and English. Guest reviews on the operator's own site name her again and again, for her dive briefings, her organisation, her knowledge of the sites and the way she looks after guests and crew. If you read through the reviews, the same words keep coming up: well run, no hiccups, feels like family.

The rest of the crew gets the same praise. Reviewers single out the chefs, the dive guides and the day-to-day service. Service is a recurring theme in the reviews, from embarkation to the last day.

Diving

Jakaré typically runs three dives a day. Early mornings come first, sometimes before breakfast, when conditions are best. Night dives are scheduled by conditions and guest preference rather than built into every day. You are not obliged to dive every slot.

The onboard dive centre is led by Audrey, a bilingual French- and English-speaking instructor. It supports recreational, TEK and closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) diving, which is unusual on a boat this size, and nitrox is available for certified divers. Two tenders, a rigid 5.8 m dinghy and a 5 m RIB, each with a 40HP engine, take divers to the sites.

Beyond the dives

Jakaré has no superstructure above deck, which leaves an unusually open living space for a 30-metre boat. There is a large sundeck, a shaded 360-degree dining area, a lounge with beanbags, a dedicated yoga space and a rear relaxation deck.

Kayaks, a stand-up paddleboard and a wakeboard are on board, and kayaking trips are also available. Snorkelling, beach stops with bonfires and guided treks round out the programme. The boat suits small groups and families with children, and mixed groups of divers and non-divers.

Meals mix Indonesian and international dishes, with vegetarian options, and there is a bar with spirits, cocktails and wine.

Cabins

Five cabins, all with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and storage:

Banggai 1 and 2 are the standard front cabins, each with a 120 cm bed and an 85 cm single.
Lotus 1 and 2 are the premium central cabins, each with a 140 cm double and an 80 cm single.
Dewi Sri is the aft cabin, with a 150 cm double bed and a private wooden deck that opens directly to the water at sea level.

Where she sails

For the 2026/2027 season, Jakaré covers Raja Ampat, Komodo, the Banda Sea, Alor, Halmahera, Triton Bay and the Togean Islands. Jakaré is certified as a Responsible Operator with Longitude 181, and solar panels and sustainable practices are part of daily life on board.
